Beautiful Creatures - Read This Immediately!!!
There were no surprises in Gatlin County.
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.
At least, that's what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong.
There was a curse.
There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.
Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.
There are no words to describe how amazing this book it. Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl do a magnificent job putting together this story. Part romance, part mystery, part Southern goth, all spectacular!
The story is told through the eyes of Ethan Wates, a local boy from the small sourthern town of Gaitlin. From a town where everyone stays, Ethan so desperately wishes nothing more than to escape. "Anywhere, but here" is his motto. That is, until Lena enters the picture. And as you can see from the synopsis, nothing is ever the same.
One of the things I truly love about the book is the relationship between Ethan and Lena. Most books seem to always rush into relationships. Boy sees girl and BAM, they're together. Well, with Beautiful Creatures, the relationship starts from getting to know each other to friendship to more. It builds and actually feels real. And just like the title, it's beautiful.
Another thing I loved about the novel is the incredible way the authors describe the setting. I felt like I was there. I could picture the library, the houses, Ravenwood, the school, everything. And the characters should not be overlooked. From their appearance to their attitude, you'd swear you've known them your whole life.
Now, I'm not one for spoilers and I certainly won't start now, but what I will say is this. The ending is one of the best endings I've read in...I don't even know how long. Certainly leaves room for a sequel!
I would recommend this to EVERYONE! Please, just trust me when I say that Beautiful Creatures is worth every single page. It's poetic, emotional filled, with a handful of action and yes, just plain beautiful.
