Natalie Palmer's debut, Second Kiss, released in September of 2010 . I recently read it this weekend. It's charming, it's heart-wrenching, it's good! Please welcome her to Addicted 2 Novels!
1. How would you describe Second Kiss to someone who has never heard of it?
It’s a book about a real girl, living in a real world with real problems. But it’s also about friendship, love, disappointment and the realization that the first kiss is just that – the first, of many.
2. What inspired you to write Second Kiss?
My life. I was a dedicated journal writer when I was a teen and I had a special talent for getting myself into “interesting” situation – especially with boys. Of course it’s all fictionalized but a good amount of what happens in the heroines life really did happen to me.
3. If someone were to ask you for a soundtrack to Second Kiss, which bands and songs would you pick?
The last five pages of the book were inspired by the song “Don’t Wait” by Dashboard Confessionals. So that is a must.
But here are some more:
“Do You Remember?” Jack Johnson
“Breathe” – Michelle Branch
“If You’re Wondering if I Want You To” - Weezer
“How Does it Feel?” Avril Lavigne
“Girls Just Want to Have Fun” (Cover) – Greg Laswell
“How Do I Get There From Here?” Deana Carter
“All You Wanted” – Michelle Branch
“Meteor Shower” – Owl City
“Stolen” – Dashboard Confessionals
“Broken” - Lifehouse
“Raining in Baltimore” – Counting Crows
“Listen to Your Heart” – DHT
“Don’t Wait” – Dashboard Confessionals
Wow, GREAT soundtrack!
4. Are there any snacks you must have when writing?
I’m kind of a cereal fanatic. But it’s difficult to eat and type at the same time so I usually go for a bowl when I’m stuck in a hard place or having a writer’s block. Who knew that Captain Crunch could be so inspirational?
5. Are you currently working on any other projects?
Currently? Yes, but only in the loosest sense of the word. I’m about three quarters done with a sequel to Second Kiss (I love to imagine Gemma and Jess in high school!) but I’m taking some time off to promote Second Kiss. After all, there really isn’t a lot of use for a second book if no one knows about the first!
6. Who is your all-time favorite literary couple?
I think at this point I’d have to say Emma and Mr. Knightly. I love how imperfect Emma is and how devastated she is when she discovers that. But I also love that even though Mr. Knightly isn’t afraid to show his disappointment in her, he still loves her despite all her flaws.
7. And, because Valentine's Day is around the corner, what do you love most about Valentine's Day?
Hands down the chocolate covered strawberries that my husband gets me every year. He knows I love them and I hope I’m still getting them from him when we’re old, gray and kind of smelly.
Thank you so much, Natalie, for the awesome interview. I'm totally craving chocolate covered strawberries, lol. Now, onto the giveaway. One lucky winner will win a signed copy and bookmark of Second Kiss by Natalie Palmer.

"Gemma Mitchell is a normal girl who somehow gets herself into abnormally embarrassing circumstances. And while she thinks she's the biggest loser in school because of them, there are a few people in her life who would disagree. One of those people is her best friend, Jess Tyler, who is opposite to her in every way. He's popular, good looking, athletic, and intelligent, and he can't get enough of Gemma. But while Gemma is dealing with problems like wrong locker combinations and Valentine's Day dances, Jess is living in a world of serious issues that are foreign to Gemma, until she realizes that he's holding on to her for dear life.
Humorous and true to life, Second Kiss is an entertaining saga about a boy and girl who find that their lives have a lot more meaning once they have shared them with each other. "
