Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the fabulous ladies at
The Broke and the Bookish. This week's topic is the top ten books you liked more/less than you thought you would. Let's do half and half starting with the less. Ready? Let's go!
Books I liked less than I did:
I guess with such a gorgeous cover, I thought I'd like it more. Yep, judged a book by it's cover. It's not that it was bad, but it wasn't amazing either. Oh well!
Super disappointed in this book. It is one of the only books I've ever given only one star to. When one claims to be as good as PERFECT CHEMISTRY, one has to deliver and this book didn't.
Let's just get this straight: I didn't hate this book. I didn't love it either. For a book about traveling Europe and being stuck with exes, it just fell a little flat. The main character just complained the whole time and couldn't see all this beauty around her. To be fair, I couldn't see it either because the story didn't really describe the setting well. They might as well have been back home and for a book that insinuates oversea fun, it simply just didn't.
Am I the only one that was super disappointed in CROSSED? I still haven't read REACHED so maybe the rest of the trilogy will redeem itself?
I love Emily Giffin. Last year, I was literally panting, waiting ever so patiently for her latest book. What I wasn't expecting was to be so turned-off by it. Personally, I didn't like nor connect with any of the characters and found their actions a little childish. I guess I'll stick with YA novels.
Books I liked more than I thought I would:
Long ago, I read this book for a blog tour. Didn't know what to think of it and since the tour needed more people, I volunteered. Y'all, this book blew me away. I'm a huge fan of Tom Leveen's and look forward to his latest book each year. Zero = just as awesome. I'm currently reading Manicpixiedreamgirl, and all I can say is wow. He's a diamond in the rough, and I hope each of you discover him soon.
I received this book from the publisher and really hadn't heard of it prior to that. I picked it up, and it was like love at first sight. How can a book so painful feel so warm?
Did anyone else out there pick this book up because of all the hype? Well, I'm one of those people. Originally, I couldn't fathom why a book about sparkly vampires could be such a success. After reading it, I completely understood why.
Ahh, yes. My very first Sarah Dessen book. A girl at Borders (MISS YOU, BORDERS!) recommended this to me, and I really didn't know why. I wasn't a fan on contemporary novels back then, but after reading this book, I was sold, sold, sold. Because of you, ALONG FOR THE RIDE, I discovered other great contemporary authors like Jennifer Echols and Simone Elkeles. I shall never forget you for that.
Thank you, super awesome S&S guy at ALA last year, for telling me I had to read this book. Here I was trying not to take home books that weren't on my list, when you come up to me, telling me to pick it up and give it a try. Be warned, this isn't an easy book. It's painfully honest and heartbreakingly real. Be prepared to cry and want to punch people in the face.
There you have it, folks! What books are on your list?!
