Our Song Blog Tour + Giveaway

Y'all, I'm super excited to be a part of the OUR SONG blog tour today. If you've read my review, you know how I truly adore this novel. Without further ado, please welcome Jordanna to Addicted 2 Novels!

1. How did you find the inspiration to write OUR SONG?

I really wanted to write about a girl who comes to the end of her identity as she knows it, and I felt that having her literally die was the most dramatic way to force her to make this realization. While I've never had a near death experience personally, I've definitely experienced a lot of what I refer to as "small deaths" in my lifetime -- those moments of humiliation or challenge or defeat that feel like they're the end of the world as you know it, but are usually blessings in disguise. I think we try on different personas and experiences, especially in our teens, as we figure out who we are. Many times it's the people we date or fall in love with that trigger the most pain and evolution, so that's why I wanted Olive to experience what it's like to be with the right guy on paper versus the guy who sees you for who you really are -- and accepts you.

2. Do you base any of the characters on people you know? Possibly yourself?

Not in any direct or even conscious way, but once a book is said and done, I can sometimes read it and see that some of the characters share aspects of real people in my life. But I definitely drew from my own emotional and romantic experiences in shaping Olive's story, even though the plot isn't based on any real events. But I've definitely dated the wrong guy(s), I've had my heart broken, and I've had moments of thinking the pain would never go away, so I had some material to draw on. And conversely, I also know what it's like to get over that pain, to triumph again, to find lasting and authentic and meaningful relationships in life and love.

3. What books are you excited to read this summer?

Nantucket Blue by Leila Howland
The Lucy Variations by Sara Zarr
The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen

4. Where is your favorite place to read?

If I could teleport, it would be in Maine -- anywhere in Maine in the summer. But short of that, I love reading in bed or in my backyard.

5. In Twitter speak, express why everyone should read OUR SONG in 140 characters or less.

If you've ever had your heart broken or felt like your life is over, OUR SONG will give you hope that you are in charge of your own destiny

Jordanna, thank you so much for taking the time out to answer a few questions for us. Now it's giveaway time. As part of the tour, we are giving away a finished copy of OUR SONG. All you have to do is fill out the Rafflecopter form below. This giveaway is only open to US participants.

  2. I would love to visit a small town in Maine this summer too, especially after reading Nantucket Blue (which was really cute!) and This is What Happy Looks Like (which was also really cute!). What a great interview! I'm sure most of us can relate to the feeling she mentioned in her first answer.

  3. What a lovely interview, girls! I feel like even if it's unconscious, authors always put a little bit of themselves into their characters. I can't wait to read Olive's story and try to figure out what little pieces could maybe be from Jordanna's experience. Thanks for sharing!
